Who else does this channel

Brand24, Meltwater. Each of those pages compares them on their own published facts, with the source and the date we checked it.

What competitor coverage watch is

This channel finds journalists who have published a story naming one of your competitors. It reads the article to judge whether it is genuine editorial coverage. Affiliate and promotional pages are filtered out. Most of what ranks for a brand name is written to earn a referral, not to inform. The channel finds the articles that are not.

For each article that passes the filter, Mentionry drafts an email. The draft introduces your business as a relevant source for the journalist's next piece on that topic. The draft lives in your browser. It is not sent on your behalf.

Why look for competitor coverage

A journalist who wrote about a competitor last week understands your market. They have already done the research. Their editor has approved the angle. They are more likely to write about the subject again than a journalist who has never touched it.

Your goal is not to get a link in the old article. It is to become a source for the next one. This is a way to build relationships with reporters who are actively covering your niche. It is more specific than a media database. You are reaching out based on a story they actually published.

How the channel works

You give Mentionry your domain. It works out who you compete with. It then searches for recent articles that mention those competitors. Every found page is opened and read.

The system judges each article individually. It is allowed to say this business cannot honestly pitch this journalist, and it does. It refuses to draft a pitch for purely promotional or affiliate driven content. A page it cannot open is reported as unchecked, never as unlinked.

The output is a list of journalists and publications, each with a drafted email. You can edit that draft, and it goes from your own Gmail. Mentionry sends it for you.

What it will not do

This is not a continuous monitoring tool. It is a prospecting run. You run it when you want to find opportunities, not to get alerts every time a competitor is mentioned.

It does not cover social media. It finds articles on news sites and blogs. It does not provide sentiment analysis or share of voice reporting. It is for outreach, not for board reports.

It cannot read email digests like HARO. That channel requires a subscribed mailbox and IMAP parsing, which Mentionry does not do. We state that limitation plainly.

How to judge if it is worth your time

Measure the output by quality, not volume. In a measured run for one domain, the system read 110 openings, judged 40, and kept 14. The filtering is the product. The 14 kept were genuine editorial opportunities with a drafted ask.

Compare it to the alternatives. Brand24 is for social listening and brand mention monitoring across the web. Pick it if you want continuous monitoring with alerts. Meltwater is for enterprise media intelligence and reporting. Pick it if you are an enterprise comms team that needs coverage reports for a board.

Pick Mentionry if you want the mentions that are missing a link, with the ask already drafted, rather than a feed of everything anyone said. You can see the price before a sales call.

Questions people actually ask

How is this different from a regular media monitoring tool?

Media monitoring tools show you every mention. This channel shows you only the mentions that represent a genuine outreach opportunity. It filters out affiliate and promotional content. More importantly, it provides a drafted email for each opportunity, turning a mention into a actionable pitch for future coverage. It is for doing, not just watching.

Does this find links I can get in the existing article?

No. The goal is not to get a link added to an old story. Journalists rarely edit published articles to add new links. The goal is to use their demonstrated interest to introduce your business as a source for their next article on the topic. The drafted email is framed for future coverage.

What sources does it check for coverage?

It searches for articles on news sites and blogs that mention your competitor's name. It opens and reads each page to judge its editorial merit. It does not monitor social platforms, forums, or email digests. The focus is on published articles that represent potential journalist relationships.

How current is the coverage it finds?

The search is for recent coverage. The exact recency filter is not a fixed number of days, as the newsworthiness of a topic varies. The system prioritizes articles that are likely to still be relevant to the journalist's current beat and interests. Very old articles are deprioritized.

Run this against your own domain

Give it a domain and it works out who you compete with, mines the pages that link to them and not to you, judges every opening one at a time, and writes the email, the form or the reply. It sends them from your own mailbox, so the replies come to you.

Find out what your domain is missing

Qualifying a domain is free and it is the honest first question: some sites have a pool worth mining and some have nothing to mine and everything to earn. Run that first.
